Welcome to WiFi

WiFi is the short form of Wireless Fidelity

Network security remains an important issue for WLANs.

WPA

WiFi Protected Access (WPA) is the new security standard adopted by the WiFi Alliance consortium. WiFi compliance ensures interoperability between different manufacturer's equipment. WPA delivers a level of security way beyond anything that WEP can offer, bridges the gap between WEP and 802.11i networks, and has the advantage that the firmware in older equipment may be upgradeable.

Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP)

WPA uses Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP). TKIP is designed to allow WEP to be upgraded. This means that all the main building blocks of WEP are present, but corrective measures have been added to address security problems. The weaknesses in WEP have been well publicized. TKIP's improvements are described below

Access Point

WPA and other wireless encryption methods operate strictly between your WiFi enabled computer and your WiFi access point. When data reaches the access point or gateway, it is unencrypted and unprotected while it is being transmitted out on the public Internet to its destination - unless it is also encrypted at the source with SSL when purchasing on the Internet or when using a VPN.

So, while using WPA will protect you from external intruders, you may want to implement additional techniques to protect your transmissions when you use public networks and the Internet. There are several technologies available, but currently VPN works best.

Hotspot

It is the area surrounding the access point of WiFi within fidelity can access the data from the access point.

It is the process of accessing data by any fidelity from the access point within a hotspot without any wire connection.

Bluetooth & WiFi

Bluetooth and WiFi are both wireless networking standards that provide connectivity via radio waves.

Bluetooth's primary use is to replace cables, while WiFi is largely used to provide wireless, high-speed access to the Internet or a local area network.

Scope of WiFi

The WiFi is not only an advantage in the direction of making all fidelities connected wirelessly, but our life on the road has just got a lot easier.
